In 1932, when an advertising agency sent a photographer on assignment, it was not customary to attribute authorship to their works. The taking of ‘Lunch atop a Skyscraper’ was no exception: the scene was part of an advertising campaign for the GE Building (also known as 30 Rockefeller Plaza) in New York and involved eleven models posing for the shot.
